Arizona macro demand drivers¶
How to read this page
Each driver is written as driver → which entity it moves → a leading indicator to watch. The drivers themselves are real Arizona demand forces; the magnitudes and the exact indicators are largely 🟡 assumptions or 🔴 gaps — the group has strong operator intuition here but has not yet wired most of these indicators to a data feed. Nothing on this page is a fabricated number: where a figure would be needed and no source carries one, it is marked 🔴.
Markers: 🟢 Confirmed · 🟡 Assumption · 🔴 Gap · 🎯 Target.
The driver table¶
| Driver | Moves (entity) | Leading indicator to watch | Marker |
|---|---|---|---|
| Construction starts / earthwork — every commercial dirt job needs dust suppression and site water | SWTR (rental), SEQ (buy vs rent decisions), DET (transport of units) | Maricopa dust-control permit filings (public record filed at ≥ 0.1 acre — see regulatory); large-acreage (≥ 5 ac) permits are the long-duration signal | 🟡 driver confirmed directionally; permit-as-usable-feed is 🔴 unverified (see below) |
| Dust-control / Rule 310 compliance season — enforcement + dry-season disturbance drives water-truck need | SWTR, SWTP (parts to keep rental fleet compliant/uptime) | Permit volume + county enforcement posture; overlaps the summer curve on seasonality | 🟡 |
| Fire / wildland season — tenders and mop-up units (2,000–4,000 gal / USFS spec) | SWTR (Tactical Fire Tender, Wildland Mop-Up lines) | AZ fire-restriction declarations; USFS / state wildland activity; typically summer-weighted | 🟡 line offers confirmed; demand-timing quantified 🔴 |
| Municipal water — municipal/utility water hauling and site supply | SWTR | Municipal contract / bid activity | 🔴 Gap — named as a customer segment in the GTM, but no sizing or indicator sourced |
| Ag cycles — agricultural water and equipment demand | SWTR, parts entities | Seasonal ag water demand; harvest/planting calendar | 🔴 Gap — listed as a demand segment; no Arizona-specific indicator sourced yet |
| Mining cycles — large earthwork, haul-road dust control at mine sites | SWTR (large, long-duration jobs), SEQ | Mining capex / active-site activity; these are exactly the ≥ 5-acre long-contract jobs | 🟡 named as a large-contract segment; cycle data 🔴 |
| Fuel prices — operating cost for renters and for DET transport; shifts rent-vs-buy math | DET (direct cost), SWTR (renter economics), all fleet ops | Diesel price trend | 🔴 Gap — no fuel-price figure or threshold appears in sources; flagged as a driver to wire |
| Equipment-finance rates — cost of capital shifts the rent-vs-buy decision | SWTR ↔ SEQ/STE (this is the seam the rent-to-own credit exploits) | Prevailing equipment-loan rates | 🟡 direction confirmed (higher rates favour renting → feeds SWTR); no rate figure sourced |
The seam that ties several drivers together — rent vs buy¶
🟢 Multiple drivers above (finance rates, fuel, construction cadence) all push on the same decision: a contractor choosing to rent (SWTR) or buy (SEQ/STE). That decision seam is where the group's highest-leverage motion lives — the rent-to-own credit (rental payments crediting toward a purchase), which turns SWTR demand into SEQ/STE sales leads. See the SWTR roadmap. 🟡 The credit's share and cap are parked pending Brandon's review — not yet a live offer.
Honesty notes preserved from research¶
🔴 The dust-permit database as a dated buying signal — HYPOTHESIS, not fact
Maricopa County's dust-control permit records are public and searchable, and because a permit is required at ≥ 0.1 acre disturbed, in principle every commercial dirt job files a public record saying it is about to start making dust — a buying signal with a site and a date. This remains an UNVERIFIED hypothesis as a usable lead source. Field coverage (contact details especially), refresh cadence, and the county's terms on automated/bulk access are all unconfirmed, and the portal sits behind a disclaimer gate. Do not repeat as fact or budget against it until verified. Detail lives on regulatory.
Most macro indicators are not yet wired
The group has operator intuition for these drivers but has not connected most of them to a live indicator feed. The 🔴 gaps above (municipal water, ag, mining, fuel, finance-rate figures) are standing research to-dos — fill a 🔴 with a source and it becomes 🟢, don't backfill with a guess.
