Cadence — the rhythm of the loop

Principle
Each rhythm answers a different question. Don't relitigate strategy weekly; don't discover a blown quarter at the QBR.

The stack

Weekly — execution & blockers

  • Question: are we on track this week, and what's blocked?
  • Who: each entity manager (Ops, STE, SWTP, DET, Shop).
  • Agenda (EOS Level-10 shape): scorecard numbers → last week's to-dos → IDS (Identify, Discuss, Solve) the top issues → new to-dos.
  • Artifact: a running weekly scorecard + issues list. Not on this site (too granular) — this is the floor rhythm; its misses roll into the MBR.

Monthly — the MBR (performance vs plan)

  • Question: plan vs actual — why the variance, and what do we change?
  • Who: entity manager prepares → reviewed with Brandon/MC-ATG.
  • Trigger: the entity's books close (AM confirms) → the return tables fill → an agent drafts the MBR.
  • Agenda: follow the MBR template — prior-cycle follow-up first, then scoreboard, financials, variance so-what, decisions now-what, forecast, wins.
  • Artifact: one MBR file per entity per month, appended in the entity's §5. Its decisions land in the decision log.

Quarterly — the QBR (are the targets right?)

  • Question: are the Rocks/targets still right? Re-forecast the year; re-allocate capital.
  • Who: Brandon + MC-ATG + entity managers.
  • Agenda: review the quarter's Rocks (scored as OKRs, 0–1.0) → refresh §3 targets → work the 🔴 research gaps in §0 → update the enterprise capital-allocation ranking (where the next dollar goes).
  • Artifact: updated targets + a dated QBR entry in the decision log.

Annual — direction reset

  • Question: is the direction itself still right?
  • Who: Brandon + MC-ATG.
  • Agenda: refresh the enterprise V2MOM and north-star constellation; reset the year's one Hoshin breakthrough; re-baseline every entity's §1 Charter.
  • Artifact: new annual plan; the prior one is superseded (kept, not deleted).

The golden rule of the loop

The MBR opens by reviewing last cycle's action log — before any new business. No new discussion until every prior commitment is marked done / not-done. That single habit is what makes the loop close rather than leak.

Current state (2026-09)

🟡 The cadence is defined but not yet running its first full turn — the monthly return feed is gated on the GL pipeline (#55) for revenue/margin; non-financial leads/utilization/build-count metrics can run a real monthly cycle now. First target: one full end-to-end MBR for a single entity before scaling to all five.
