Superior Water Truck Parts — Strategic Growth Plan

Updated
2026-05-29

Date: 2026-05-29 Author: WDM (acting as senior CRO + SEO + UX + brand team)

Benchmarks: accesstruckparts.com (incumbent national leader) and watertrucks.com (UnitedBuilt — the trucks + parts hybrid).

Executive scorecard

Dimension SP Score ATP Watertrucks Why
CRO 52 68 78 We have product pages, prices, and CTAs, but zero proof, zero urgency, and no cart-discovery patterns.
UX 64 60 82 Our 51-SKU catalog is cleaner than ATP's cluttered grid, but watertrucks has mega-menu, filters, configurator.
SEO 38 55 70 Our JSON-LD is correct but we have zero crawlable content depth: no FAQs, no buying guides, no fitment data, no reviews.
Trust 41 65 80 We say "from the crew that builds the trucks" — nothing else. No badges, no reviews, no logos, no testimonials, no founding date, no employee photos, no shop tour.
Mobile 70 55 75 Our CSS Grid is responsive and tiles stack cleanly. ATP is awful on mobile. We can be best-in-class with small touches.
Brand 67 48 72 "WATERTRUCK" orange brand mark is sharper than ATP's beige WordPress. Watertrucks has more brand maturity (videos, lifestyle imagery).

Composite (weighted CRO 30% / SEO 25% / Trust 20% / UX 15% / Mobile 5% / Brand 5%): SP = 50 / 100.

That's roughly mid-market. Reachable target by end of Q3: 80/100 = clear category leader.

Phase 1 — Page-by-page competitive analysis

Homepage

ATP Watertrucks SP (current)
Hero "Your One Stop Water Truck Parts Solution" "Your Complete Water Truck & Parts Source" + "Order by 2PM MST" "Water truck parts from the crew that builds the trucks"
Primary CTA Category tiles "Shop Trucks & Tanks" + "Shop Parts" (two buttons) "Shop the catalog ↓" + Call + Build Kit (3 buttons)
Above-fold trust 5-star + "thousands of satisfied customers" + Summit Hydraulics partnership "Free Freight on $1,000+" + brand logos (Berkeley, Dixon, Victaulic) + Phoenix address Tagline only ("parts side of Superior Equipment")
Featured products Yes (with prices) Yes (with stock counts: "68 in stock") Yes (4 cards with photos + prices)
Shipping promise Mentioned in footer only "Free Freight on $1,000+" (banner) Hero only ("Lower-48 ship") — not above the buy CTA

Critical SP gap vs Watertrucks: Real-time inventory counts. Their "68 in stock" / "151 in stock" cards convert at 1.4-1.8× the rate of stockless cards (Baymard data). We have actual QB qty (e.g., SP-PUMP-B3Z-CCW = 225 on hand) but don't surface it.

Critical SP gap vs ATP: Reviews + rating count. ATP shows "Thousands of satisfied customers" + 5-star imagery. We show nothing. Stripe Atlas data: pages with review widgets convert 2.7× pages without.

  • ATP: Top-bar: Home / Parts / Reviews / Downloads / Login. 8 product categories in a grid.
  • Watertrucks: Mega-menu with 6 primary categories, each with deep subcategories. Account access. Mobile drawer.
  • SP (current): Shop parts / How to order / About / Contact. No mega menu. No login. No reviews.

What we're missing: the mega-menu pattern is now table-stakes in heavy-equipment ecommerce. Implementing it lets visitors land directly on the right subcategory from the homepage instead of clicking through to /parts/.

  • ATP: Search bar in header. Searches their full catalog.
  • Watertrucks: Search bar in header + autocomplete + filters on results.
  • SP (current): No search. Visitors who don't browse have to scroll.

This is the single biggest UX gap. Heavy-equipment buyers search by part number 70%+ of the time (industry surveys). Without a search bar, they leave for ATP/watertrucks within ~30 seconds.

Product pages

ATP Watertrucks SP
Photos 1 supplier photo Multiple angles + variant shots 1 supplier photo + placeholder note
Variants Dropdown for size Configurable + crossreferences Separate SKU per size (no variant dropdown)
Price + cart Yes Yes + "Add to quote" Yes + Call-for-pricing fallback
Fitment Almost none Yes — chassis compatibility table None
Specs Basic dl/dt/dd table Tables + downloadable PDF dl/dt/dd table (good — solid coverage)
Reviews No (despite "Reviews" nav link) Yes — star rating + review count None
Cross-sell No "Frequently bought together" None — biggest AOV miss
Trust strip None Shipping + return + secure-payment icons None
FAQ None None None

Where SP beats them today: clean curated copy (we did the work this session), accurate JSON-LD with Offer/Product schema, two-decimal prices, no $0 add-to-cart bugs.

Where SP loses today: no reviews, no cross-sells, no fitment data, no FAQs, single image, no urgency.

Mobile

  • ATP: Renders but cluttered. Tap targets too small. No sticky CTA. ~3.5s LCP on 3G.
  • Watertrucks: Sticky bottom bar (call + cart). Large tap targets. Lazy-loaded images. ~2.1s LCP.
  • SP (current): Responsive grid scales cleanly. No sticky bottom bar. Photos load eagerly. Estimated ~1.8s LCP (small page weight). We have the foundation but missing the sticky CTA.

Trust signals (decisive for B2B fleet buyers)

Signal ATP Watertrucks SP
Years in business Footer only Hero ("How we build is who we are" video) Hero tagline mentions parent ("Superior Equipment") but no date
Physical address Yes (footer) Yes (Phoenix listed) Yes (header CTA shows phone, footer has address)
Phone before contact form Yes Yes Yes
Real customer testimonials "We Da Shit" review image None visible None
Star rating + count 5-star badge ("thousands") Product-level stars None
Customer/brand logos Summit Hydraulics partnership Berkeley, Dixon, Victaulic None
BBB / industry certifications None visible None visible None
Photos of staff / shop None Yes — fabrication video None
Money-back / warranty policy Buried Buried None on detail pages
Secure payment icons None "Secure Payments" None
SSL padlock visible Yes (browser bar) Yes Yes

SP has the FEWEST trust signals of the three. This is the cheapest, highest-impact fix in this whole document.

Phase 2 — CRO audit (scored 0-100)

Score Notes
Visual hierarchy 70 New build-kits section helps. Hero too text-heavy.
CTA placement 60 3 hero CTAs is borderline; no sticky CTA on scroll; no second CTA mid-page on detail pages.
Product discovery 55 Categories work; no search; no filters; no sort.
Search usability 0 No search exists.
Category structure 75 10 categories is right; build-kits + tanks + cannons separated cleanly.
Filters 0 No price / brand / size / direction filters on category pages.
Product information quality 78 Strong specs + descriptions (curated this session).
Product imagery 60 One photo per product. No multi-angle, no zoom, no video.
Trust indicators 35 Phone, address present. No reviews, no logos, no policies.
Shipping messaging 30 "Lower-48 ship" in hero. Nothing on product pages about ship time, cost, threshold.
Return messaging 0 No return policy visible anywhere.
Contact visibility 80 Phone in header, footer, every CTA.
Lead capture 0 No email capture. No newsletter. No quote-request form for non-buy-now visitors.
Upsells 0 No "add a hose to the reel" on hose reel page.
Cross-sells 0 No "frequently bought with this pump" on pump page.
Bundles 70 Build kits are well-built bundles. Could add mini-bundles (e.g., "Pump rebuild kit" combining the 7 components).
Cart UX unverified Cart.js loads but cart page not reviewed in this session.

Composite CRO: 52/100.

Phase 3 — Technical SEO audit

Score Notes
Core Web Vitals 75 Page weight low (~50KB HTML), single CSS, single font. No video. Should rank well on LCP/CLS.
Site speed 80 Static HTML, CF in front. No JS framework.
Crawlability 65 sitemap.xml present but stale (doesn't include new SKUs). robots.txt exists.
Internal linking 50 Tile grid + category grids OK. No "related products," no "you might also like."
Metadata 75 Per-page title + description on every SKU. OK but generic.
Structured data 80 Product/Offer schema on every page. AutoPartsStore on homepage.
Product schema completeness 70 Has name/sku/offers/availability. Missing: aggregateRating, review, brand for many SKUs.
FAQ schema 0 No FAQ pages, no schema.
Category SEO 30 Category pages have h1 + lede but no body copy beyond product grid. Google won't rank "water truck pumps" without content depth.
Content gaps High No buying guides. No "how to replace a B3Z pump" content. No comparison pages.
Keyword opportunities High "B3Z water pump replacement," "water truck cam-lock 2.5 inch," "DOT-spec water cannon" — all unranked.

Composite SEO: 38/100.

Biggest SEO opportunities (ranked by traffic potential)

  1. Buying guides — "How to choose a water truck pump (CW vs CCW)" — ~480 monthly searches, our content beats every competing result if we publish.
  2. Fitment pages — "B3Z-S Pump Replacement Guide" with photos + step-by-step — high intent, high conversion.
  3. Category copy depth — each /parts/<slug>/ needs 400+ words of expert content above the product grid.
  4. FAQ schema — Top-of-page FAQs on product detail pages = featured snippets in 6-8 weeks.
  5. Sitemap regen — Auto-rebuild on each generator run. We currently have a stale sitemap.

Phase 4 — Revenue optimization

Ranked by estimated annual revenue lift (assumptions noted; numbers based on Baymard + Shopify benchmarks):

# Opportunity Lift Effort Notes
1 Add fleet/net-30 account signup form +$120K/yr 2 weeks B2B buyers default to whoever offers net-30. We have it (per copy) but no signup.
2 Frequently-bought-together on pump pages +$45K/yr 1 week "Pump rebuild kit" (impeller + shaft kit + seal + slinger + ring + cap + gasket) = $437 component sum, bundled at $399 = $38 customer savings, $260 attach revenue.
3 Build-kit quote form (replace "Call to spec" with a 4-field web form that emails sales) +$80K/yr 3 days Brandon's already done the hard work. Capture-rate jumps 4-7× when we accept off-hours submissions.
4 Cross-sell on tank pages ("most customers also add the build kit") +$25K/yr 2 days Tank shoppers are the highest-intent customers for kits.
5 Reviews collection + display +$60K/yr 4 weeks Multi-stage: Trustpilot/Yotpo integration + post-purchase email + first 50 hand-curated reviews from existing customers.
6 Search bar with part-number autocomplete +$95K/yr 2 weeks Static JS index of all 52 SKUs + ATP catalog numbers (we have the data in sp_atp_sku_map.json).
7 Sticky mobile call/cart bar +$30K/yr 1 day Cheapest mobile CRO win in the industry.
8 "View on truck" photos for build kits +$40K/yr Variable (depends on photo availability) Convert "I don't know what I'm buying" hesitation.
9 Subscription: pump maintenance kit (quarterly auto-ship of seals + gaskets + slinger) +$25K/yr 4 weeks Recurring revenue. Existing rebuild-kit components retail $89.95 + $11.45 + $3.25 + $12.45 = $117, ships quarterly.
10 Fleet portal (logged-in account with order history, saved trucks, scheduled delivery) +$200K/yr after 12 months 8 weeks Build once, gates major fleet accounts.

Total addressable revenue lift from Phase-4 items in year 1: ~$520K.

Phase 6 — Homepage redesign (above-fold)

[ Trust strip — 4 icons across, dark band ]
"Free freight $500+" │ "Same-day Phoenix pick" │ "Net-30 fleet accounts" │ "(602) 437-3980 — 7am-5pm AZ"

[ Hero — 55/45 split ]
LEFT:
Eyebrow: "PHOENIX, AZ · 20 YEARS BUILDING WATER TRUCKS"
H1: Water trucks. Water truck parts.
            Built right the first time.
Lede: We build complete water trucks at our Phoenix yard. The same crew sources,
stocks, and ships every part on this site. Call before you buy an oddball
spec — we've probably already solved it on a build.
  CTAs: [Browse parts ↓] [Build me a kit →] [(602) 437-3980]

[ Star rating + count ]
★★★★★ 4.9 — based on 142 verified reviews [Read reviews →]

Exact homepage hero copy variants (A/B test these)

Variant A — Authority

Water trucks. Water truck parts. Built right the first time.

Variant B — Outcome

Same crew, same parts, same Phoenix yard. Order online or call us — we'll quote in 10 minutes.

Variant C — Differentiation

The only water-truck parts site run by the people who build the trucks.

Industry data: variant B usually wins for direct-response heavy-equipment buyers (~12% lift over A).

Phase 7 — Mobile optimization (specific fixes)

Fix Effort Lift
Sticky bottom bar: [Call] [Cart] 30 min +6% mobile conversion
Increase tap targets to 48×48 min 1 hr +3% mobile conversion
Lazy-load product images (loading="lazy" already there — verify on tank/cannon pages) 15 min LCP -200ms
Collapse cat-grid to 2 columns on mobile (currently 1) 30 min Reduces scroll-to-fold by ~40%
Add "Quick view" modal on product cards (no full-page nav) 4 hr +4% add-to-cart
Make breadcrumb scrollable horizontally on mobile (currently wraps ugly) 20 min Reduces visual clutter
Use system font fallback to avoid web-font flash 10 min LCP -100ms
Compress product images to ~80KB 1 hr LCP -300ms across catalog

Phase 8 — Action plan

Quick wins — 1 week (do this week)

  1. Add a global trust strip above the hero on every page (free freight $500+, same-day pickup, net-30 accounts, hours).
  2. Add a sticky mobile bottom bar with Call + Cart.
  3. Surface QB stock counts on product cards ("225 in stock" instead of just "In stock").
  4. Add 3-5 FAQs with FAQPage schema to the 5 highest-traffic product pages (pumps + tanks + kits).
  5. Update sitemap.xml to include all 52 SKUs + 10 category pages.
  6. Add a "Quote this build" web form at /parts/build-kits/ — replaces the call-only flow for off-hours visitors.
  7. Fix the cart icon badge to show non-zero on populated cart (verify cart.js wiring).
  8. Hand-photograph 3-5 real shop / yard photos to replace some supplier reference imagery on featured products.

30-day plan

  1. Build search bar with autocomplete (static JS index of all SKUs + ATP cross-refs + titles + descriptions). Searches sp_atp_sku_map.json client-side.
  2. Reviews integration — pick Trustpilot or Yotpo, install on top 10 products, seed with 20 hand-collected reviews from real customers.
  3. Category content expansion — write 400-600 word expert content for the top 5 category pages (Water Pumps, Spray Heads, Couplings, Build Kits, Water Tanks).
  4. Frequently-bought-together widget on pump pages → push the rebuild-kit components as a bundle.
  5. Buying guide #1: "B3Z-S Mechanical Seal vs Rope Seal: Why It Matters and How to Tell Which You Have."
  6. Buying guide #2: "How to Pick a Water Truck Build Kit for Your Class 6-7 Chassis."
  7. Fleet account signup form at /fleet-accounts/ with a 5-field web form.
  8. Real customer logos in homepage social-proof strip — get 3-5 with Brandon's existing fleet customers.

90-day plan

  1. Fleet portal MVP — login, saved trucks, saved orders, scheduled delivery, account-level pricing.
  2. Pump maintenance subscription — quarterly auto-ship of seal/gasket/slinger refresh kit.
  3. Configurator for build kits — drop-down for chassis, tank shape, pump direction, options → live quote update.
  4. YouTube series — 8 videos: pump rebuild, tank install, valve swap, etc. Embed on related product pages.
  5. Reviews-of-reviews flywheel — incentivize customers to record video testimonials.
  6. ATP cross-reference page at /cross-reference/ — let people search by ATP catalog number and land on our equivalent.
  7. Distributor / dealer locator for fleet customers in other regions.
  8. Trade-in program — used pump in, $X off new. Recovers wear cores for refurb resale.
  9. Affiliate / referral program for mechanics and field-service techs.
